Reset Administrator/User Password on Windows Server 2008 R2
Windows Server 2008 has a strong security policy that it is usually used to control all computers for a company. If forgot administrator password, how can we reset the password safely? For instance:
“A company had to remote connect into a Windows Server 2008 machine that I manage, and they changed the administrator password by accident. I need to recover this password if at all possible, so I won't lose the encrypted files stored on the machine. How can I do this? If it is not able to be recovered, how can I change it or create a new admin account to the server machine?”
What if you forgot Windows server 2008/R2 password, there are two situations. Your computer works on a domain or works on a workgroup. Make a general survey of most of windows password recovery solutions, there are about two common methods for Server 2008 r2 password recovery.
Solution One: Reset Windows Server 2008/R2 Password Via An Available Administrator Account
If you have an available admin account to login your Server 2008, resetting forgotten password for any other user accounts becomes easy. To reset a password for a local user account, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Login Windows Server 2008 with an available admin account.
Step 2: Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button - Control Panel - User Accounts - User Accounts - Manage User Accounts.
Step 3: On the Users tab, click the user account name, and then click Reset Password.
Step 4: Type the new password and confirm it, and then click OK.
Note that if your computer is on a domain, only your network administrator can reset your domain password. This task will be completed in Active Directory Control Center.
Step 1: Logon the Server Computer as administrator,.
Step 2: Click start button, click Active Directory Administrative Tool. Open Active Directory Users and Computers.
Step 3: Right-click an user account which you want to reset its password and choose Reset Password.
Step 4: Type a new password and confirm the new password, click OK.
Solution Two: Reset Windows Server 2008/R2 Password by Using Windows Password Rescuer Advanced.

Step 1. Download and install Windows Password Reset Advanced on another computer you have access to. Run the software to create a universal Windows password recovery disk.
1. Insert a writable CD/DVD or plug in a writable USB flash drive and select burning option: CD/DVD or USB Device.
2. Choose the drive name from pull-down list. Click Begin Burning button to start burning. You will successfully complete the burning within one minute.
Step 2. Insert the Windows password recovery disk to your "locked computer" and set it to boot from CD/USB via BIOS SETUP.
Note: If you want to reset domain account password, please insert the recovery disk to the “Server Machine” and set it to boot from CD/USB.
Step 3: Recover Windows local or domain password on a friendly window.
(Local account password recovery or Active Directory admin password recovery)
Computer boots from the Windows password recovery disk. Wait for a moment, Windows Password Reset Advanced will start automatically and display a friendly interface for you.
Option 1: Recover Windows server 2008 local or domain administrator password.
1. Click Administrator account from users list.
2. Click Reset Password. When a confirm massage pops up, click YES.
Note: In order to meet the password policy requirement, Windows Password Rescuer Advanced will set the password to Hello@2011 by default.
3. Click Reboot button to restart your computer. When a confirm message pops up, eject Windows password recovery disk(your CD/USB) first, and click Yes to restart, then you can logon your computer as administrator with the new password.
Note: When Windows Password Rescuer starts, all local user accounts of Server 2008 can be displayed. You can click any user account and the click Reset Password button to reset its password as above. For domain password reset, only domain administrator will be displayed and other domain members are hidden. If you want to recover a domain member password, you just need to click Add User button and enter the user name, click Ok.
Then the user account will be displayed in list and its password will be reset to Hello@2011.
Option 2: Create New Administrator Account for Windows Server 2008/R2 without Logging.
